GCA/Hadi’s Mall Inc. : Carmichael powers MSC to first innings

THANKS to a solid all-round performance from Kellon Carmichael, the Thomas Lands-based Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) grabbed first innings points from Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC), when the two met at the Everest Cricket Club ground last weekend. Winning the toss and opting to bat first in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)-organised, Hadi’s Mall Incorporated-sponsored two-day first division contest, GNIC were bowled out for 171 with Ijaz Mohammed contributing an unbeaten 79.
Feeling the disappointment of not being selected in Guyana’s CT20 squad, Carmichael led from the front for MSC by grabbing 6 for 19 from 13 overs (his best bowling performance to date) and received support from Seon Daniels who took 3 for 41 from 11 overs.
When MSC replied, they scored 234 all out with Carmichael returning to lead their batting with a stroke-filled 60 that was decorated with eight fours while Shaquille Williams contributed an unbeaten 47 (3×4) and Daniels 21 ( 1×4, 1×6).
Bowling for GNIC, Desmond Butts took 5-48, Ryan Shun 2-28 and Leroy Bristol 2-45 and, faced with a deficit of 63, GNIC were 117-5 when the game came to a close, with skipper Elton Baker scoring 32 (5×4) and Krishna Arjune 30 (3×4) against the bowling of Danny Narayan and Carmichael, who took two wickets each for 27 and 37 runs respectively.
