MOTIERAM Krishna, 18, was slapped with an indictable charge accusing him, on Saturday, 1st December, at Mon Repos, of robbing Radesh Ganga of one Blackberry Gold cellphone valued at $120,000 and $40,000 cash, to a total of $160,000, when he appeared before Sparendaam Magistrate Alex Moore on Tuesday, December 4. Another charge states that, on the same day, Krishna used personal violence against Radesh Ganga.
Krishna was not required to plead to the charges, but
Attorney–at-Law Gwendolyn Bristol, who represented him, said in her bail application that Krishna and the virtual complainant had a physical confrontation, resulting in the VC accusing her client of robbery.
She stressed that if the investigating officer had investigated the matter properly at time, her client would not had been charged for the offences.
Nevertheless, she asked that bail be granted at a reasonable sum, and Police Prosecutor Joel Alli had no objection to bail being granted.
Ganga was then placed on $100,000 bail, and the matter was adjourned to March 29, 2013.
