New Zambian envoy looking to consolidate ‘good relations’ with Guyana – first Georgian Ambassador accredited

THE rewards that the Republic of Zambia, a landlocked country in Southern Africa, would have gained from establishing relations with Guyana in 1964 were worth mentioning when Cynthia Jangulo presented her letters of Credence to President Donald Ramotar as the newly appointed High Commissioner of Zambia to Guyana.

altRelations were established the same year the country gained independence from the United Kingdom, making way for a partnership agreement that saw Guyanese experts in various fields dispatched to work in Zambian institutions, and the subsequent establishment of a Guyanese embassy in that country.
“These experts are still remembered in our country for their good work. You came to our aid at a time of great need… it is my government’s desire to consolidate the good relations that exist between our two countries in this regard,” High Commissioner Jangulo said.
She is resident in Brazil, where Zambia has an embassy established since 2006, and hopes to strengthen cooperation between the two countries with a focus on agriculture, tourism, private sector partnership and cultural exchanges.

At the level of the United Nations UN, the Commonwealth, the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries, and the Non Aligned Movement, where the two countries have membership status, Zambia will be looking to Guyana for advocacy on issues of poverty, climate change and other pressing issues for developing countries.
President Ramotar expressed the hope that the new High Commissioner will, during her tenure, work towards the enhancement of bilateral relations through the development of a programme of cooperation for a renewed focus on human resource development, one that could encourage the implementation of specific projects in the economic and social sectors to the benefit of both countries.
High Commissioner Jangulo, who in January, 2012, attained a Certificate of Diploma in Practice, Protocol and Public Relations at the Zambia Institute of Diplomacy and International Studies became the Ambassador Designate in the Zambian Embassy in Brazil in March.

Yesterday’s accreditation was also followed by the installation of Guyana’s first Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to Guyana, Otar Berdzenishvili.
