“The K&S football tournament had humble beginnings in the mining town of Linden as a four-team tournament in 1989 when Banks DIH Ltd was the major sponsor and put up the $4 000 first prize. Now today we’re at $4M,” said Mohammad.
Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United, Pele and BK International Western Tigers; all previous winners of the coveted title, will be the teams representing Georgetown.
Resurgent Amelia’s Ward United who finished fourth place last year will accompany Milerock, Winners Connection and Silver Shattas as the teams from Linden while Timehri Panthers and Grove Hi-Tech are the East Bank teams.
BV/Triumph United, Bakewell Buxton Stars and Buxton United are the East Coast teams; Den Amstel, Uitvlugt (West Bank) and Mill Ballers from Bartica are the other teams competing this year.
The winning team this year will take home $4M, with the Most Valuable
Player (MVP) driving away with a brand new motor car. $1M will be awarded to the runners up, third-placers $750 000 and fourth-placers $500 000.
