Teams outfitted and ready for 23rd K&S football tournament

FOLLOWING yesterday’s team briefing held at the Princess Hotel and Casino, the 16 teams were all presented with their respective uniforms to commence this year’s Kashif and Shanghai Football Tournament which starts on Sunday December 16.Co-director of the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation, Kashif Mohammad , expressed a heartfelt thank-you to the teams and players who will be participating in the event this year, stating that this promises to be a grand tournament, especially given the fact that more prizes are set to be won individually.

“The K&S football tournament had humble beginnings in the mining town of Linden as a four-team tournament in 1989 when Banks DIH Ltd was the major sponsor and put up the $4 000 first prize. Now today we’re at $4M,” said Mohammad.
Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United, Pele and BK International Western Tigers; all previous winners of the coveted title, will be the teams representing Georgetown.
Resurgent Amelia’s Ward United who finished fourth place last year will accompany Milerock, Winners Connection and Silver Shattas as the teams from Linden while Timehri Panthers and Grove Hi-Tech are the East Bank teams.
BV/Triumph United, Bakewell Buxton Stars and Buxton United are the East Coast teams; Den Amstel, Uitvlugt (West Bank) and Mill Ballers from Bartica are the other teams competing this year.
The winning team this year will take home $4M, with the Most Valuable
Player (MVP) driving away with a brand new motor car. $1M will be awarded to the runners up, third-placers $750 000 and fourth-placers $500 000.
