Industry man denies burglary at friend’s home

AN INDUSTRY man has been charged with burglarising his friend’s home and carting off jewellery valued $15,000 and $4,000 cash. Ramnauth Sukhram appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore yesterday, at Sparendam Court, also on East Coast Demerara, accused of committing the offence at Anita Mohan’s house on Saturday, November 24 and particulars of the charge said he stole one silver and gold band, worth $15,000 and the money.
But Sukhram told the court he knew nothing of the allegation and said he was elsewhere when the crime was committed and he has several witnesses to substantiate his claim.
However, the police alleged that the virtual complainant, who had secured her premises and gone out, caught Sukhram inside upon her return.
The court was told that the defendant had several cases of a similar nature but Sukhram said, although he may have had brushes with the law previously, he was never convicted on any of the charges.
He is scheduled to be back in court on January 4, 2013. (Odella Patterson)
