Principal’s Cup launched : … ETI students to compete in premier sporting competition

STUDENTS attending the Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI) are being given an opportunity to compete in a very prestigious and sporting competition.
The competition, the Principal’s Cup, was launched and various classes will compete in the cricket competition which, according to school officials, is geared towards maintaining a high, friendly and competitive spirit among students of the school. The Principal’s Cup is being sponsored by the school’s principal Mr Michael Turner and in an exclusive interview with Chronicle Sport, he said that the competition is geared towards increasing the sporting events and activities that are being staged for students attending the institution.
The competition, which was launched via a simple ceremony in the ETI’s auditorium, was attended by a number of school administrators, officials and students.
Principal Turner endorsed remarks made by the Deputy Principal Muneshwar Jagnanauth and other school officials.
In his presentation, he gave an outline of the competition which will be competed each Friday, noting that at the end of the competition the Cup must be won three consecutive times before it can be kept.
He said that he was prompted to execute such an event taking into consideration that while heading (LTI) Linden Technical Institute he had implemented a successful Principal’s Cup as well. However, this he said was competed in football. He pointed out that cricket was chosen owing the significant love and passion by students for the game.
Turner added the success of the Principal’s Cup at LTI prompted him to hold the competition at ETI anticipating similar responses.
He said that so far he is overwhelmed with the response by many to compete in the competition. Already all the classes have entered noting that they have also fielded female teams.
“This is a demonstration that students at ETI were craving for something more and having such a competition will serve to raise the standard of the competitive spirit and foster good sportsmanship among the students. I am confident that based on the response that we will have exciting matches,” he said.
