Petition of Solidarity for Minister of Home Affairs, Clement James Rohee

THE Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO), the women’s arm of the ruling People’s Progressive Party, has issued a petition of solidarity with Home Affairs Minister, Clement Rohee. The petition was formulated at the WPO’s Congress last weekend.
Following is the text of the petition:

WHEREAS, the delegates and observers of the 16th Triennial Congress of the Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO) met on Saturday, November 24 and Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the Diamond Secondary School, East Bank Demerara;

And WHEREAS, the Congress is deeply concerned over the vindictive, rancorous and confrontational behaviour of the opposition, APNU and AFC in collaboration with the Speaker of the National Assembly as they unveil the various elements of their anti-Rohee campaign;

Concerned that APNU, the AFC and the Speaker of the National Assembly extended their abuse and violation of the Constitution of Guyana and standing orders of Parliament to deprive and suppress Minister Clement James Rohee’s right to freedom of expression and representation of the people as an elected Member of Parliament;

This, the 16th Triennial Congress of the WPO condemns the continued abuse and violation of the Constitution of Guyana and standing orders of Parliament by the APNU and AFC in collaboration with the Speaker of the National Assembly which sets a dangerous precedent as an assault on our young democracy;

The Congress resolves to extend its unstinting support for Minister of Home Affairs, Clement James Rohee and pledges to continue the struggle and support for upholding the democratic norms and practices that are necessary for the positive advancement of our society.
