THE Senior National Selectors of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), led by Chairman Ravindranauth Seeram, have selected Akshaya Persaud to replace Tagenarine Chanderpaul in the Guyana Harpy Eagles (GHE) Super50 team. Tagenarine Chanderpaul recently received his maiden call-up to the West Indies Test squad.

West Indies will begin their 2022 Test tour of Australia with a Three-Day practice match against ACT/NSW, from November 17, 2022, at St Philips Oval, Canberra. This match will be followed by a Day/Night Four-Day practice match against the Prime Minister’s X1 which is scheduled to be played at Manuka, Canberra.

These matches will provide useful practice and game readiness for the two Test matches with the first scheduled to be played from November 30, 2022, to December 4, 2022, at the Perth Stadium and the second from December 8, 2022, to December 12, 2022, at the Adelaide Oval.

Akshaya Persaud made his first-class debut for Guyana against Jamaica in January 2018 and his List-A debut for the Combined Campuses and Colleges and against the Leeward Islands in St. Kitts in November 2019. Persaud has so far played five First-Class matches and eight List-A matches with the highest score of 55, at an average of 27.83 and a strike rate of 55.29.

GHE will play Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. In their first encounter of the preliminary rounds, GHE beat Trinidad and Tobago.

After four rounds of the CG United Super50, GHE is currently top of the points table in Zone A with twelve (12) points, followed by Trinidad and Tobago Red Force with 10 points, Windward Islands Volcanoes with eight (8) points, and Combined Campuses and Colleges with two (2) points. Zone A matches are played in Trinidad and Tobago, whereas, Zone B matches are played in Antigua.

After three rounds of action in Zone B, Leeward Islands lead the points table with 10 points, followed by Barbados Pride with six points, and Jamaica Scorpions with four points based on a superior net run rate over the West Indies Academy whose points also stand at four.
