All five men who kidnapped prominent rice farmer Parasram Ramnarace and his employee Patrick Skeete are in custody. Charges will be instituted shortly, Police said. Meanwhile, the rescued kidnap victims, Parasram Ramnarace, of Dundee, Mahaicony, and his employee, Patrick Skeete, of Calcutta, East Coast Demerara, yesterday visited the hospital after enduring a night of pains about the body. They are thankful for the swift efforts of the police in apprehending the five men. Relatives of the men said that the incident has left them very tramautised and the men experienced pains about the body and decided to re-visit the doctor for a proper diagnosis. Police said Ramnarace and Skeete, of Calcutta, Mahaicony, were kidnapped in the Abary Backlands by five men, one of whom was armed with a gun. At about 03:00h on Wednesday, Skeete was pumping water in the backlands when the five men assaulted and bound him. And at about 07:30h Ramnarace was making checks and he too fell victim to the suspects and was also bound. He was robbed of $20,000 in cash, a gold ring and other personal items. Demands for a ransom were subsequently made. But swift action by ranks in ‘C’ Division supported by ranks from headquarters freed the victims and subsequently arrested three of the suspects, while the two others were purused. One 12 gauge shot gun and nine matching cartridges were lodged in police custody as they continue investigations.
Police said that at about 01:00h yesterday ranks in Police ‘C’ Division, East Coast Demerara, arrested the remaining two suspects on the Mahaicony public road bringing the total to five persons fingered in the kidnapping of Patrick Skeete and Parasram Ramnarace on Wednesday September 9, in the Abary Backlands.
