For Boxing Day concert… Tourism Ministry, Hits and Jams bringing Chris Brown

CHIEF Executive Officer (CEO) of Hits and Jams Entertainment, Mr. Rawle Ferguson announced, yesterday, that international artiste Chris Brown will be performing at the ‘Unforgettable 2’ mega concert at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara, on December 26 (Boxing Day).

altSpeaking at a press conference, in the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, on South Road, Georgetown, he confirmed that, for the first time in this country, they will be presenting an ‘A’ lister and he urged all Guyanese to support the show.
Noting their tremendous relationship with Aruwai Plaza (the major sponsor of it), Ferguson said such events are not possible without the Government of Guyana, Corporate Guyana and the Guyanese public.
He said this is a huge undertaking and they are expecting an entourage of 50 persons to arrive with Brown but, despite the magnitude of the occasion, Guyanese can expect reasonably priced tickets.

LOCAL ARTISTES
Ferguson said all the members of a family can come out together and have a good time, adding that Hits and Jams always tries to give local artistes exposure and, as such some of them, like Timeka Marshall and Gialiani will be featured.alt
He said Hits and Jams is happy to collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce on entertainment tourism.
According to Ferguson, the upcoming programme will provide an economic boost for Guyana, as everyone stands to benefit, including the taxi services, hair salons and local beverage companies.
He said the main objective is to bring the diaspora back to Guyana while allowing the ordinary person to experience, individually, what is usually seen on television.
Ferguson said they want to unite the country through entertainment, bringing all the races together and he pointed out that Chris Brown’s music transcends all ethnicities.
Meanwhile, Acting Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Mr. Irfaan Ali said that the ministry is very happy to partner with Hits and Jams on the Christmas tourism package.
“This event is one that we’re partnering with the Private Sector, in this case Hits and Jams, in developing a Christmas package that will include Chris Brown as one of the major artistes to pull people into Guyana,” he said.
The minister observed that, usually, when artistes are in Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados, a lot of people from the region travel to those destinations to attend their concerts.
In partnering with Hits and Jams, the ministry’s role would be to look at how to incorporate the event into their Christmas package that will be sold in Trinidad and Barbados, Ali said.

COMMENCED DISCUSSIONS
He said they have already commenced discussions with the regional media houses to stream the concert live, in order to promote Guyana through tourism packages, as well, in advertisements which will be aired during the concert.
“So we want to focus not only on the Guyana market, but to expand our tourism, to bring persons into Guyana so that we can have spending of foreign currency, high occupancy and a lot of opportunities created in the local business environment,” Ali explained.
He said they have already discussed, with Caribbean Airlines and EZJet, the development of special packages for Christmas, not only with regards to air fares, but for hotel rates and other transactions.
The minister thanked the two airlines for their collaborative role and informed that the ministry is also working with two other air carriers to expand the airlifting capacities to Barbados.
He said the capacity to increase the airlifting capacity is there and continuous work needs to be done on it, so that Guyana can reap the economic benefits.
