UP to press time last evening a 34-year-old mother of three, Nicola King, and her assailant, whose name was only given as Alex, were patients at the Georgetown Public Hospital. Nichola’s sister, 42- year- old Allison Bowen was killed after she was stabbed about the body by the now hospitalized man on Sunday evening.
Alex was hospitalised after ingesting rat poison.
The Guyana Chronicle was informed that the assailant murdered his partner on Sunday night in front of a shop at 1 Clay Brick Road Goedverwagting, a few houses from her home.
It was reported that the two had an argument and the man chased the woman and assaulted her, resulting in her death.
Speaking with this publication while at the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday morning, the mother of the two women said that she received a call on Sunday evening from one of her daughters informing her that she should visit the hospital.
Audrey Bowen said that when she arrived at the hospital she learned one of her daughters had died. She said that the other daughter had sustained a stab wound to the region of the heart.
Clearly shaken by the incident the woman said that she was informed that the man initially took rat poison to the home of the woman and attempted to administer it to her and her three children.
But Allison fought him off and a row ensued.
According to Ms. Bowen her other daughter, who was injured in the attack, attempted to go to her sister’s rescue but was assaulted by the attacker. She said that her daughter told her that she held on to the man asking him if he knew what he was doing, and he overpowered her and continued to assault her sister.
At the hospital, the woman recalled that her daughter’s problems are nothing new and the family did all in their power to ensure that their relative does not end up being a statistic of domestic violence. She explained that there were times when the man would abuse her daughter and they would ensure that he was arrested each time.A sorry Ms. Bowen said that each time that they had the man arrested for hitting the woman; she would go and plead with the police to release him.
One of the operators of the shop before which Bowen was killed said that he was alerted to the incident by his brother who told him somebody was in front of the building screaming.
They went outside and saw Bowen lying on the ground, bleeding.
He said the police took the woman to the hospital. The police are said to be investigating the matter even as doctors are working around the clock to ensure that assailant remains alive, to face charges which are expected to range from assault, attempted murder and murder.
