THE BOSAI Minerals Group-sponsored Open Challenge basketball championship, sponsored by Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA), will tip off tomorrow evening with Victory Valley Royals and Retrieve Raiders squaring off at 18:30hrs in the lone game of the evening at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court. This lone encounter on the opening day will follow a march past of the seven affiliated clubs, namely Kashif and Shanghai Kings, Wismar Pistons, Amelia’s Ward Jets, Block 22 Flames, Retrieve Raiders, Victory Valley Royals and Half Mile Bulls at 18:00hrs.
On Sunday, there will be a double-header feature where in the first game at 18:30hrs, Amelia’s Ward Jets and Block 22 Flames will meet while the other encounter pits Wismar Pistons against Half Mile Bulls from 20:30hrs.
Among those invited to witness tomorrow’s action are: BOSAI Minerals Inc. General Manager George Zhoa, Sports Committee chairman Wayne Bethune, vice-chairman Carlton McCurdy and secretary Audrey Babb.
BOSAI’s Senior Personnel Officer Trudel Marks and Community Relations Assistant Vanessa Mitchell-Davis along with LABA president Capt. Eon Murray will also attend for tomorrow’s action.
The seven clubs have been divided into two groups, with Group ‘A’ comprising number one seed Kashif and Shanghai Kings, Half Mile Bulls and Wismar Pistons while Group ‘B’ is made up of number two-ranked Amelia’s Ward Jets, Victory Valley Royals, Retrieve Raiders and Block 22 Flames.
Following the march past there will be brief remarks from officials of the main sponsor BOSAI Minerals Group (Guyana) Inc. and the LABA before the tip off of the first game in the tournament which will later see the top two teams in each group qualify to play in the semifinals for a place in the final.
