THE Kitty Municipal Market continues to be a haven for thieves and a venue for criminal and nefarious activities. So said garment vendor Dhanmattie Persaud, who occupies a spot at the south-eastern corner of the facility, literally next door to the Kitty Police Station.
She quantified her losses as exceeding $200,000, – comprising mainly clothing, cosmetics, shoes, and to a lesser extent wares, which she displayed on racks.
It was observed that the lone security guard who worked outside the market at nights did not work the Saturday night/Sunday morning shift, leaving the market unprotected.
Vendors said a report had been made to the Kitty police immediately after the man had been spotted leaving the market, but the rank who had taken the report had said that the Kitty Police Station could not respond to the call, because there was nobody to dispatch to the scene at the time.
Come on people, wake up and smell the stench.
The Kitty market is right next to the Kitty Police Station and yet the police could not respond.
In most robberies this is the cry of the poor, innocent hard-working people.
Many years ago there was a butcher shop directly opposite theKitty Police Station that was broken into.
Residents called the station to report the break-in.
The Police at the station told residents that the police do not have a vehicle at the moment.
Only yesterday I wrote a letter regarding police inaction on many robberies stating the more things change the more they remain the same.
How long must this trend continue with the police when called to crime scenes?
Or are the police an entity on their own and are governed by themselves?
The police are getting away with murder and will continue to do so since they are not held responsible for their actions or lack thereof.
