A 29-year-old mechanic, was, on Friday, charged for the murder of a miner, whose lifeless body was found in a shallow grave at Toroparu Backdam, Lower Puruni River in Region Seven.
Quacy Shepherd, of Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara, appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Crystal Lambert and was remanded to prison.
Shepherd was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that between April 15 and 27, 2022, at Toroparu Backdam, he murdered Noel Anthony Fredericks, 27.
He will make his second court appearance on May 20, 2022.
This newspaper had previously reported that Fredericks went missing at Toroparu Backdam, on April 15, 2022 and was discovered by police ranks in a decomposed state on April 27.
According to Police Headquarters, ranks went into the Toroparu Backdam where contact was made with Shepherd, in whose presence Fredricks was last seen.
Based on this information, he was arrested and questioned.
According to police, Shepherd allegedly told them that on April 15, he and Fredericks were drinking alcohol at a shop in Toroparu Backdam.
He further told the police that they subsequently left the shop and he was towing Fredericks back to his (Fredericks’) camp.
Shepherd allegedly told police that Fredericks asked him to do a sexual act and he agreed. When they were through, an argument ensued during which he claimed he choked Fredericks while simultaneously covering his mouth and nose, resulting in his death.
