Man remanded for allegedly beating ex-girlfriend with hockey stick

29-YEAR-OLD Fabian Crawford was remanded to prison, on Thursday, for allegedly beating his ex-girlfriend about her body because she refused to engage in sexual intercourse with him, a police source confirmed.

The accused man, of Laing Avenue, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. He will return to court on March 9.

Crawford was not required to plead to the charge which read that, between February 18, 2022, and February 19, 2022, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded the victim with intent to disfigure or disable her.

The court heard that Crawford and the victim were in a relationship until January 2022, which ended due to his alleged abusive behaviour.

It was also reported that, on January 18, Crawford broke the victim’s phone during a confrontation. He later reached out to the victim and offered to pay for the damage to her device.

On February 18, the victim reportedly visited Crawford’s house to collect the money from him.

However, she was allegedly attacked by Crawford after she refused to have sexual intercourse with him.

Armed with a hockey stick, Crawford allegedly dealt the victim several lashes about her body, which caused her to receive injuries to her head, legs, and hand.

She later made a report to the police and Crawford was arrested.
