FOOTBALL fans should be in for a treat tonight when the semi-finals of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/Kashif & Shanghai Organisation year-end football tournament is staged at the National Track and Field Facility, Leonora.

The first semi-final from 18:00hrs is a titanic battle with Western Tigers clashing with Guyana Police Force FC, followed by defending champions Guyana Defence Force and Den Amstel from 20:30hrs.

Sticking to pundits’ script, Tigers should overhaul Police but it won’t be so easy. The lawmen have been playing positive football and have reached this stage compliments of a convincing win over Ann’s Grove where usual protagonist Dexroy Adams and Jemine Junior reached the back of the net.

Tigers, too, have been in rapid goal-scoring form, and, humbling Bartica at home 4-0 on Christmas night would only build up more confidence to win the favourite title; for playmakers Trayon Bobb, Andrew Murray Jr and Kevon Woodley are in good touch.

Meanwhile, the defending champions had to work hard to come from behind and defeat Milerock 3-1 at Mackenzie Sports Club.

Certainly (it will be) no easy task but right throughout the tournament, GDF have been clinical, given their experience and quality. On form and pedigree, they should be able to get past their West Demerara opponents.

Den Amstel will be looking to slay another giant after booting out Fruta Conquerors, and while GDF are certainly tougher opponents, the team’s management is ready for any test.

The team to lift the trophy on January 1 will also take home G$2 million.
