Jaguars getting in shape for World Cup Qualifiers

THE  national football team are currently preparing in camp for their crucial home/away, 2014 World Cup qualifiers double-header versus El Salvador on September 7 and 11 respectively, that will define their destiny and potential progress in Group B.
With regular national coach Jamaal Shabazz currently absent due to engagements with his Trinidad & Tobago Pro League team (TTPL), Caledonia AIA in the ongoing CONCACAF Champions League, the team is under guidance of assistance coach Wayne Dover for the camp which commenced last Sunday.
A 16-member contingent is made up mainly of local-based players. Strikers  Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams and Vurlon Mills, veteran midfielder Kayode McKinnon, Konata Mannings, wingers Dwain Jacobs and Dwight Peters are among some of the more established currently encamped at the Signature Inn Hotel in Queenstown.
The local Jaguars have been keenly focused on fitness work in the mornings at the Body Max Gym under the supervision of Brazilian trainer Americo Falopa with whom the players have enjoyed working and tactical work in the afternoons at the Police Sports Club ground under coach Dover’s instructions.
Dover highlighted that some of local-based players in the camp who have been involved in the national Under-17 and Under-20 squads, are getting a great opportunity to get  au fait with the senior national coaching staff at this stage, so as to get a better appreciation of what is required at this level, should they one day make the step up.
The Jaguars will continue their gym and tactical sessions between now and Saturday. United States-based midfielder Nick Millington and Sweden-based Canadian defender Jamaal Smith, who made their first appearance for the national team during the August 15 friendly versus Bolivia, are also expected to join the squad in the next few days.
