I wish to caution the Berbice, Essequibo boards

I UNDERSTAND that the IMC is working on a new constitution for the Guyana Cricket Board and proposes to hold elections shortly. I however have a few questions which, through you, Mr. Editor, I would like to pose.

(1)  Has this new constitution been circulated to all stakeholders, including the three county boards? And in the case of Demerara, which apparently doesn’t have a board, the Georgetown Cricket Association, The East Bank Cricket Association, The East Coast Cricket Board and the West Coast Cricket Board?

(2)  Has this constitution been seen by all stakeholders, such as large sponsors and the general public?

(3)  Is it true that there is a clause in this constitution that limits who can run for president?  If so, isn’t this a backward step? Shouldn’t the members have an unfettered discretion as to whom they should elect. I think so, and the members must not forfeit that right.

(4)  Isn’t the crisis with the Demerara Board more critical and shouldn’t this be resolved first?

I wish to caution both the Berbice and Essequibo Boards to do a careful analysis of this new constitution and to ensure that it is publicly vetted before any election is held.
