A 24 year old educator, who hails from Mahaica, was arraigned at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court last Tuesday for unlawfully assaulting Melissa King. Upon arraignment Alana Hutson, a school teacher, told the court that she was at the Guinness Bar at Mahaica dancing when she stepped on the defendant’s foot. An argument started and she was hit in her face with a beer bottle.
As a result a scuffle ensued and she lost her finger nail in the process.
She was released on $20,000 bail by the presiding Magistrate, Judy Latchman.
Meanwhile Melissa King was also charged and placed before the court.
The prosecution is alleging that King unlawfully and maliciously wounded Alana Hutson.
The accused, who was unrepresented by counsel, pleaded not guilty.
However after noting the gravity of the injuries sustained by the complainant, Magistrate Judy Latchman allowed King her pre-trial liberty, and granted the young woman $100,000 bail.
Both parties are expected to return to court on 24th September.
