LILOWATTIE Persaud of Mahaica Creek, East Coast Demerara, was on Tuesday, brought before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court, charged with unlawfully assaulting Balram Toolsieram, in addition to wounding him so as to cause him actual bodily harm. Persaud pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Attorney at Law Harricharand Mahadeo, who appeared for the defendant, told the court that the virtual complainant and the defendant had a conflict over a donkey that was tied in front of the yard.
When questioned by Magistrate Latchman as to what happened to him on the day in question, the father of ten blurted, ‘she beat mi’, much to the amusement of the courtroom.
He further explained that the defendant used a piece of bamboo to give him a sound trashing, mostly on his back.
Persaud was then granted $60,000 bail and ordered to return to court on 25th September.
