Minister Anthony tells young swimmers to do their country proud

The Guyana  swimming team that will be participating in the 18th annual Goodwill Swimming meet from today, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony in his office, yesterday. The team was given words of motivation by the Minister and Permanent Secretary Alfred King in the presence of executive members of the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA).
Anthony told the gathering, “Once you are able to accomplish that personal best you will do us all proud but you first have to get that inward motivation to do your best, if you don’t have that motivation, we can tell you, it will change that dynamics when you get into the pool, you have to believe that you can do it and I’m sure if you have that confidence when you get into that pool you will do extremely well.”
Guyana will be hosting swimming juggernauts Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago along with Barbados over the next three days at the National Aquatic Centre, Liliendaal from 12:30pm.
Minister Anhony  went on to say: “I am very pleased that we have so many of you participating at different age groups and you should not be daunted by the competition you should see it as an opportunity to do yourself and your country proud”.
He stated that he would like to see the team do its best even though there will be fierce competition because home advantage is on their side.
Also speaking at the gathering were team captains Omari Dunn and Soroyo Simmons who assured the minister that the team will do their best to make the country proud.
Team Manager Jean LaRose thanked the minister for taking the time off from his busy schedule to accommodate the team and reiterated that the swimmers will do their best to make Guyana proud.
