– Continued support from indigenous people for LCDS
– Resolution to end blockage to hinterland and continued progress
AFTER the significant and historic event where the United Nations Development Programme/Government of Guyana/Amerindian Development Fund (UNDPGOG|ADF) agreement was signed three members of the National Toshao’s Council made petitions to President Donald Ramotar, after close consultancy with their people and leaders present at the National Toshaos Conference at the Guyana International Conference Centre, Liliendaal, in two important areas of concern.
Led by outgoing chairperson, Yvonne Pearson, who indicated after close consultation from the leaders and people she presented a petition for the continuation of the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) as it has bore fruit to the indigenous people of Guyana.
She urged the support of the National Toshaos Council (NTC), residents and villagers leaders and other Toshao’s as she committed all to the process.
The second petition was where the newly elected NTC chairman Derrick John led his presentation in seeking the help of the government to bring an early end to the Linden situation.
John noted that his emotions grew to near tears to see his brothers and sisters back home suffering at the hands of some immature citizens. He noted that it was an inconsiderate move to block the main gateway to the hinterland by road, which has seen a significant increase in prices and a scarcity of a number of basic several commodities.
The call was echoed from his fellow Toshao from the Ruprununi where he made representation to the President on behalf of the North, South East and Central Ruprununi, noting that his call for this petition came after the blocked main road way to the hinterland forced them through an alternative path to Rockstone, then to Parika en route to the city for national conference and this has caused the members, Ministry and Toshaos additional costs to get to the city.
The toshaos shared their concerns affixing their signatures to the two prepared documents.
