President Ramotar to address public procurement seminar today

PRESIDENT Donald Ramotar is scheduled today to give a feature address to a symposium on public procurement currently underway at the Guyana International Convention Centre at Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown. The symposium is a two-day event hosted by the government which began yesterday.
This was disclosed by Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Luncheon during his post-Cabinet media briefing yesterday.
He disclosed that those attending include Contractors, Consultants, Quantity Surveyors, suppliers, Accounting Officers and Supervisors.
As part of the programme yesterday, the participants addressed evaluation of submitted bids with the aim of highlighting the need for standardization and adequacy of procedures as well as the process of selection of evaluation criteria on which bids are assessed.
The Procurement Act stipulates the functioning and composition of evaluation committees that are appointed in the tender procurement process and weaknesses in application and inconsistencies by some of these Committees were some of the issues that were addressed at the evaluation component of the procurement process.
Today following the address by President Ramotar, important aspects of the Procurement process will be highlighted through the use of presentations and case studies tutorials for the benefit of the participants.
