IN response to a letter published in the Stabroek News on Thursday, July 19, 2012, under the caption “We should keep our animals off the roads” the Ministry of Home Affairs said that between 29th March and 28th December, 2011, with the commencement of the stray-catching programme a total of 847 animals were impounded. The ministry added that when the programme recommenced on 4th June, 2012, 231 animals were impounded to date.
The ministry said that they are in the process of making arrangements to have the programme established in the police ‘B’ Division.
The ministry reiterates its plea to cattle owners to have proper supervision of their animals and for road users to be on the lookout for strays roaming the public roadways.
