Concrete/steel structures replacing deteriorated wooden Essequibo bridges

THE Government will start construction on two new concrete bridges that would carry Essequibo Coast Public Road over drainage canals at Three Friends in the South and Better Success in the North. Making the announcement earlier this week, Chairman of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Parmanand Persaud said the contracts have already been awarded to Essequibo contactor Samaroo’s Investment, of Hampton Court and the work is expected to begin shortly.
The new concrete and steel structures will replace timber ones that have deteriorated very badly over the past years.
The Government, over the past 19 years, has built overpasses of concrete to cross drainage canals along the public road at Hampton Court, Devonshire Castle, Walton Hall, Paradise, Perth, Dartmouth (two), Maria’s Delight (two), La Resource and Somerset and Berks.
Several motor vehicle drivers have said they are happy that the Government is pushing on with development and the erection of the new fixtures point to more progress, despite the Alliance for Change (AFC) and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) budget cuts.
