BCB assists NASS for upcoming Sir Garfield Sobers Tournament.

THE New Amsterdam Secondary School (NASS) cricket team is currently preparing for the upcoming Sir Garfield Sobers School cricket tournament in Barbados and last Wednesday, they received a major boost when the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) made a financial donation of $20 000 to assist in expenses. Last year the team played in the international tournament for the first time and did fairly well against more seasoned teams.
Treasurer of the BCB, Anil Beharry, in handing over the donation said the Board was very happy that a team from the Ancient County would be playing in a tournament bearing the name of the greatest all-rounder to have played the game of cricket.
With the level of Berbice cricket being at an unbelievable stage, Beharry expressed confidence that the New Amsterdam Secondary School team would make the county proud.
He urged the members of the team to be proper ambassadors for Berbice and Guyana while in Barbados and to promote our country’s youths as disciplined and committed individuals, while committing the BCB to assisting the team on future tours, while they would be the recipients of a special incentive should they go on to win the upcoming tournament.
Coach of the team, Julian Moore, in accepting the donation expressed gratitude to the BCB and said the team was determined to make all their supporters proud by at least reaching the semifinals then to go on and become the first Guyanese school to win the tournament.
The team is made up of several Berbice and Guyana junior players and Moore disclosed that the players have been training on a daily basis for the last month and are in top shape both mentally and physically for the tournament.
