POLICE are investigating the rape and multiple sexual assaults of a seven-year-old girl and her 10-year-old brother of Kamuni Creek, Demerara River, by their father.
Kamuni creek is a tributary of the Demerara River in Region Three.
The matter is also being handled by the Childcare Protection Agency (CPA). The 40-year-old man who is a labourer was recently arrested.
Reports indicate that the children live with the suspect and their mother who suffers from a mental illness. The family lives in a shack located just off the river end.
“From time to time when the suspect consumes alcohol he will sexually molest both children in front each other. The mother will also be there but most times not in her right sense to know what is really going on,” police said.

However, the children had explained to a relative who recently returned from England what was occurring and the matter was reported to the Childcare Protection Agency.
“Upon visiting the scene both children were rescued and they both related their story to the police and the childcare officials in the grandmother’s presence, since it was observed that the mother is indeed mentally ill,” police said.
The children were taken into special care at the Sophia Children Home, along with their mother, pending investigations.
Both children were escorted to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where a full medical examination was conducted and it was discovered they were indeed raped.
