Baksh undertakes to have Cozier Scheme fully cultivated

MINISTER within the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Alli Baksh has promised that he will take the necessary actions to get the fertile land in the Cozier Agriculture Scheme back into full cultivation. Speaking to farmers, recently, at Charity also on Essequibo Coast, he said the Scheme, which covers some 6,000 acres is best suited for other crops farming.
He told them that the government spent millions of dollars to survey and regularise the area where some people were given plots of between two and five acres to plant other crops.
The Minister said, after surveyors put their markers on the surveyed lots, other farmers pulled out and threw them away.
Baksh undertook to have the list of those allocated land in Cozier looked at again, on the ground.
The farmers are calling for the scheme to be properly regularised and organised for cultivating other crops but some of them had taken large portions and are planting rice instead.
