A 29-year-old resident of Middle Street, McDoom, East Bank Demerara, was arrested on Friday after marijuana and tobacco leaves were found while he was a passenger in a truck in Cuyuni-Mazaruni, Region Seven.

The vehicle he was travelling in was stopped at the Sherima Police Outpost located at 14 Miles Issano, in Region seven, and a search of the truck’s tray resulted in the discovery of a bulky plastic parcel.

When opened, police said it contained two plastic parcels which had a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, along with some tobacco leaves.
The police showed the suspect the narcotics and he was cautioned of the offence and later admitted ownership of the marijuana and tobacco leaves.

The driver and occupants of the vehicle were then escorted to the Bartica Police Station and are in police custody assisting with the investigation.
