TAIJRAM RAHIM, 32, has been charged with murder of his wife, Amrita Rahim, 28, called “Sally” and appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
According to information provided, on November 13, at their Lot 7 Marcy Dam, Rosignol, West Coast Berbice home, Rahim fatally stabbed his wife as she lay on the bed.
At approximately 23:45 hrs on the night in question, the couple and their three children returned from a birthday party when an argument erupted between Rahim and his wife after he accused her of infidelity.
Amrita had threatened to leave the house, when Rahim left the bedroom, went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife. It is alleged that he returned to the room and stabbed his wife in the region of her left chest while she was lying on the bed. The couple’s eldest child, an 11-year-old, ran to relatives for help.
Amrita was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A post-mortem performed on her remains gave the cause of death as perforation of the heart due to stab wound. Rahim, a cane harvester, was remanded to prison and is expected to make his second court appearance on December 29.
