ATTITUDES based on race, class, religion, politics, ignorance or misinformation, instead of knowledge and commonsense can have a devastating effect on a nation’s progress. Guyana is no exception. Some of these factors have contributed to the present state of affairs in Guyana. Blaming everything including individual behaviour on perceived marginalisation and high-level PPP/C government officials’ corruption does not simply explain all the nation’s problems. Guyanese need to acknowledge that the “government” is made up of more than the PPP/C officials and their supporters.
The opposition leaders in parliament are part of the government in one way or the other. Their supporters are heavily involved in the Public Service, which not only often help form policies but are quite often responsible for executing them. Guyanese and opposition leaders need to  take a good look at all those who are helping to form and execute policies and ask how could so many be part of any form of marginalisation.
How does one explain their attitudes in discharging their responsibilities when dealing with fellow Guyanese? Who forces so many to be part of illegal activities or simply poor performances? Maybe it is time to demand personal responsibility for one’s individual actions, instead of blaming others.
