Dr. Dukhi to assess Reg. 6 health system

– Michael Khan appointed CEO of New Amsterdam Hospital

GUYANA’S lone neurosurgeon, Dr. Amarnauth Dukhi, will lead a high-level team that has been tasked with providing an assessment report of the health sector of Region Six.

Dr. Dukhi, along with the high-level team, were expected to be in the region since Monday but was unable to do so because of protests on the West Coast Berbice.

The team is expected to arrive in the region today.

“The President (His Excellency Irfaan Ali) has put together a competent team headed by Dr. Dukhi to have a look at the entire health system within the region, with the view of making recommendations to Cabinet on how we can improve the Berbice regional health system. The President is keen on having this done because of the fact that many people in the region are not working and they depend on the public health system for medical care,” said Regional Chairman, Permaul David Armogan.

Meanwhile, former Chief Executive Officer of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, Michael Khan, will be taking up a similar posting at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

“He brings a wealth of experience and we expect a total transformation of the health systems in the region,” the chairman said.
