Suspect in taxi driver murder released

THE police yesterday released the suspect in the murder of taxi driver Rajendra Puran after the 72-hour holding period expired.
The suspect, a man from Grove,
East Bank Demerara, was taken into police custody last week as they intensified their probe into the murder of Puran, whose bound and gagged body was found in a small drain at Logwood, Enmore, East Coast Demerara, on May 3.
Police however, said investigations are continuing, and other suspects are being pursued.
Puran, who lived at 1296 Section ‘C’, Block ‘Y’, Diamond, East Bank Demerara, left his home for work on the evening of May 2. He never returned.
A post mortem revealed that Puran died of manual strangulation and blunt trauma to the head.
Up to yesterday, his white ‘Toyota Raum’ vehicle, HB 9875, was still missing, and police believe he might have been the victim of a robbery/hijacking.
