NIKOLAY Davydenko suffered a shock defeat in the first round at the ATP Munich Open when falling to a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Colombia’s Robert Farah. The world number 210 upset the Russian with an accomplished performance to reach the second round, while eighth seed Marcos Baghdatis had less trouble as he defeated Germany’s Tobias Kamke 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Mikhail Youzhny, sixth seed in Germany, progressed to the second round but was taken to 7-5, 7-5 by Philipp Petzschner and Xavier Malisse was knocked out though, losing 6-4, 6-2 to Ernests Gulbis.
