IT is time that this disgusting clamour in Linden about their barefaced demand that we who pay our electricity bills in Georgetown and the rest of the country keep on subsidising them at over $200,000 per annum for every private consumer and $600,000 for every business meter be put to a stop. The Linden electricity users pay $5 per kwh while we in Georgetown pay $65. And it is we in Georgetown and other parts of the country who have to pay for the Linden users.
This injustice to Georgetowners and other coastal customers has to stop, and the Linden electricity exploiters must realise that their exploitation has been exposed and must be stopped. We in Georgetown should equally strike against paying for Linden. We in Georgetown are careful in economising our electricity usage, but in Linden they use only expensive electric cookers and not the more economical gas cookers and they keep on their lights and television and fridges all day and all night because somebody else pays the bill for this wanton waste.
And in any case, by the Constitution of Guyana, the government cannot favour or give special facilities to any one group while denying the same to all other citizens. The Linden electricity users have been favoured above those of Georgetown and the rest of the country. The same thing happened in apartheid South Africa where one group was favoured above the majority. Some people are considering taking the state to court on the issue and APNU and AFC have a chance of vindicating the constitution.
Other citizens must not pay for Lindeners
