Man remanded overnight on Mercedes Benz theft charge

A MAN was remanded to prison, overnight, yesterday, on a charge of stealing a Mercedes Benz motor car. Colin Nickle, 48, of Lot 43 Norton Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, charged, indictably, with stealing PDD 7960, valued $2M, property of Courtney Abel, having committed the offence between April 17 and 18. Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant’s son-in-law parked the car on Norton Street, from where it went missing.
The Prosecutor said, when arrested, the accused admitted that he stole the vehicle and sold it for $100,000 but the purchaser could not be located.
Nickle declared, in court, that he knows nothing about the charge and he never admitted anything to the police.
He claimed he was beaten by the virtual complainant’s son-in-law.
Nickle will make another court appearance today.
