ACTING Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry sentenced a man to two weeks imprisonment yesterday, for kicking his pregnant reputed wife. Kerwin Baksh committed the offence after Rhonda Phillips had reported him to the police for threatening her, Police Prosecutor Lionel Harvey told the court.
The prisoner (no address given) pleaded guilty to the April 19 unlawful assault, to cause the virtual complainant actual bodily harm.
Baksh, however, pleaded not guilty to another charge, which said he made use of threatening language to Phillips the same day.
The prosecutor said Baksh had told the woman not to sell something and because she did not comply he threatened her.
Phillips went to the police station and reported the threat and, when she returned home, Baksh kicked her and caused her to fall and hit her head. She had to seek treatment at a hospital.
The magistrate said she imposed the custodial sentence on Baksh because the woman is pregnant and he was unremorseful.
The other case will be called, again, on April 30.
