TWO Brazilians were sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $75,000 each, yesterday, after they pleaded guilty to separate charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. Jose Dos Reis Dvartz and Obedilson Gomes Freitas appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Particulars of the charge against Dvartz said, on April 13, he had a 16-gauge single barrel shotgun and three matching cartridges without being the holder of licences.
Freitas admitted that, on April 13, too, he had a .38 revolver and five .38 bullets while not being licensed.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said ranks on patrol stopped and searched both defendants and found the illegal guns and ammunition in their possession.
The Prosecutor said neither of them could provide police with valid licences.
