CFU Club championship matches kick off at National Stadium on Tuesday

GUYANA’S top club Alpha United and CBR Mining Milerock out of Linden will kick-start their Caribbean Football Union/CONCACAF aspirations of inter-club level supremacy as they take on Curacao’s Hubentut Fortuna and Suriname’s InterMoengotapoe in  first-round group stage encounters at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, on Tuesday. Following a meeting between Alpha United and the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), the nation’s 2011 representatives will once again seek glory at the highest football level in Caribbean football.
National champions Alpha United vice-president and Deputy Permanent Secretary Steve Ninvalle last evening told Chronicle Sport that Alpha United, by hosting at the last moment, decided to put Guyana first and ensure participation at this championship.
Alpha United created history for any club in Guyana by reaching the semifinals last year while Milerock in their own right became the first club out of Linden to play for a third round berth after getting past the first round.
Tuesday’s first game will see Curacao’s Hubentut Fortuna take on Milerock at 16:00hrs while the second will pit Alpha United against InterMoengotapoe at 18:00h.
On Thursday, Milerock face InterMoengotapoe at 16:00hrs while Alpha United take on Hubentut Fortuna at 18:00hrs.
On Saturday, the visiting clubs clash when InterMoengotapoe battle with Huentut Fortuna at 16:00hrs and Alpha United face the challenge of Milerock at 18:00hrs.
This round robin series will see the top two clubs advance to the next round where they compete against Trinidad and Tobago’s W/Connection and Caledonia AIA, sometime in May.
