Former national players on show for quarter-finals playoff
THE final round of playoff in the 2012 Mackeson GMFA Masters Football tournament will continue tonight at the GFC ground from 18:00hrs and will feature four matches to conclude the group stage of the tournament. Twelve clubs in four groups are playing for the top two places in each group to earn places in the quarter-final stage while the remaining four will playoff for the Plate trophy.
In this evening’s matches GFC will come up against Houston Stars at 18:00hrs while Pele Masters will match up with Thomas United.
In the third match Linden’s Top Klass and Brazimex will meet while the final game of the evening will bring lots of excitement as football lovers will witness Santos Masters confront Heart of Oaks of Berbice.
Former national player/coach Peter Lashley will turn out for GFC while Houston Stars will have Charles Greaves in their team.
The Rastafari Patriots will be led by former national player Durdy Butts. Beacon will put out Colin Howard, former national players Mortimer and Martin Stewart, Gordon Braithwaite, national coach Wayne Dover with Sherwin and Lionel Grimes, while Brazimex will have in their squad former national youth goalkeeper Chris George, and Sheldon Bobb.
Top Klass will include former national players Brian Joseph, Collie Hercules, Russell Persaud, Wayneright Bethune and John Wayne.
Thomas United will comprise former national Dion Barnwell, Ricardo Straker, Errol Solomon, Brian Peters, Estwick North, Michael Pierre and Ken Gibbs. Pele will showcase Cecil Jacques, Dennis ‘Chow’ Hunte, Herbert Pellew, Dirk Exeter, Ossie Taylor and Alli Parris.
Santos’ line-up will include Jamaal Shabazz, Ivan Persaud, Frank ‘English’ Parris, Joyln Lewis, Terrence Archer, Anthony Stanton, Chris Giles and Terence Wills.
The Berbician side will have in their line-up former national goalkeeper Phillip Carrington, ace forward Adrian Forde with support from his younger brother Sherwin, Kurt Alphonso and his uncle Roger, Neil Humphrey and Kenrick Bowry, Marlon DeSouza, Monty Fordyce, Nigel Felix and Eon Farley.
