COME next weekend, the Blairmont Community Centre ground will come alive, when the Universal DVD Club and Universal Solutions-sponsored t20 tournament to herald in their seventh anniversary bowls off. According to Managing Director of the sponsor Vicram Seubarran, himself an ardent cricket enthusiast, the aim of the tournament which has over $500 000 in cash and prizes up for grabs, is to expose and appreciate a mixture of players from all over the county.
Trophies will be awarded to the two top teams, man-of-the-match in the final, best batsman and best bowler, while the officials of the matches, which are being held in collaboration with the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), will receive medallions.
Four teams, namely Berbice Titans, Universal Solutions Tigers, East Berbice Warriors and West Berbice All Stars, are being led respectively by Rajiv Ivan, Shawn Pereira, Steven Latcha and Sherwyn McPherson, will do battle in two virtual semifinals next Saturday.
The following day, the winners of the semifinals will clash in the final which will be preceded by a third-place playoff between the two losing semifinalists.
A female exhibition encounter of 10 overs-a-side, will be contested before the final is played, and, with Seubarran having sponsored a first division t20 tournament which was won by Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets late last year, where lots of side attractions were available to those in attendance, fans can expect same once again.
Players who will be on show for their various teams are Jonathan Foo, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Narsingh Deonarine, Eugene La Fleur, Richard and Kevin Ramdeen, Royston Crandon, Assad Fudadin, Veerasammy Permaul, Khemraj Mahadeo, Dominic Rikhi, Brandon Bess, Keon Joseph and Romain Boodram.
The four teams are: Berbice Titans: Rajiv Ivan (captain), Eugene La Fleur, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Narsingh Deonarine, Kandasammy Surujnarine, Kevin Ramdeen, Shastri Persaud, Eon Hooper, Clinton Pestano, Linden Austin, Akram Rahaman, Chandrashakar Arjune and Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai.
Universal Solutions Tigers: Shawn Pereira (captain), Richard Ramdeen, Harrinarine Chattergoon, Royston Crandon, Khemraj Mahadeo, Keon De Jesus, Andy Mohan, Zaheer Hussain, Shailendra Shameer, Sharmindra Hardyal, Michael Newland, Rajendra Bolo and Veerasammy Permaul.
East Berbice Warriors: Steven Latcha (captain), Joemal La Fleur, Assad Fudadin, Romario De Jonge, Seon Hetmyer, Shafiq Khan, Winston Rose, Mark Lionel, Jonathan Foo, Yogindra Harrinarine, Junior Blair, Dominic Rikhi and Veerapen Permaul.
