Nevertheless, he was pleased to be given the opportunity to join the Safari which has entered its seventh year. He noted that there is much evidence of improvements in the event.
The adventure began at midnight on March 28 at the GUYOIL Gas station on Regent Street with a 20-vehicle convoy travelling to Annai, Karasabai, Monkey Mountain, Kato and Orinduik Falls where it ended.
The Ministry of Tourism Industry and Commerce and the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) collaborates with Rainforest Tours, Guyana Adventures, to host the safari. GUYOIL/Castrol, Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) company and Air Services Limited provide sponsorship.
The Prime Minister said he observed that villages such as Kato, Paramakatoi, Bamboo Creek can be elevated to the status of becoming central locations, provided that a road is paved.
He explained that the aim is to have a road that would benefit the Pakaraimas in terms of easier ingress and egress for transporting goods.
The eight-day trip was initiated by former Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Harripersaud Nokta in March 2003 who was part of a convoy comprising four vehicles and two tractors that travelled from Karasabai to Orinduik.
