Alpha, BK Western Tigers, Pele and BCC Rosignol secure full points
DEFENDING champions Alpha United, BCC Rosignol United, Pele and BK Western Tigers secured full points at the weekend in matches of the Guyana Football Federation 2012 Super League, while Den Amstel and Seawall shared points. At Uitvlugt in an all-west side battle newcomers Den Amstel held Seawall to a first-half goalless draw. This exciting first-half action saw an improved brand of football from both teams who are now being exposed to the highest tournament being played at present.
The teams displayed good ball possession in the high windy Uitvlugt Community Centre ground and as usual, a few goal-scoring opportunities were squandered.
On the resumption, experienced Seawall forward Clement Browne opened the goal-scoring sheet in the 50th minute sending his team into the lead.
The upper west side team did not accept the challenge and fought to secure a goal to have the point shared and got their desire in the 69th minute from a foul in the penalty area.
Travis Hilliman converted and the scores were level at 1-1 which remained unchanged at regulation time.
Beterverwagting ground was the venue for the double-header featuring BCC Rosignol and Victoria Kings, while Alpha United took on Buxton United.
In the first match BCC Rosignol United secured full points from Victoria Kings with a 3-1 win in another exciting matchup. The home side got their goal in the 30th minute from Winston Pompey to send his side in the lead. Twelve minutes later Delbert Wilson equalised to level the score at the end of the first half.
On the resumption, the Berbicians continued to attack and went into the lead through Delroy Fraser in the 83rd minute. His teammate Cornel Taylor supported well and added to the score line two minutes later, to send the score to 3-1, which remained to the final whistle.
In the supporting game defending champions Alpha United inflicted a 5-0 drubbing on Buxton United to take the lead in the 2012 league.
Leon Grumble opened the goal rush in the 33rd minute and was followed by Anthony Abrams in the 35th minute while Chris Camacho netted in the 42nd minute to end the first half at 3-0.
On resumption, Abrams found the net again in the 56th minute moving the score to 4-0. Manasseh Primo scored in the 74th to conclude the game at 5-0.
In the mining town at the MSC ground, the Georgetown invasion proved successful as both teams secured full points.
Newcomers BK Western Tigers who have been having a good season defeated Amelia’s Ward 4-2 in an exciting match.
Tigers’ Dwayne Ali gave his team first blood as he netted in the 16th minute. Shermon David then increased the lead when he converted his first goal in the 28th minute to command a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half.
The second half saw David score his second goal in the 75th minute to send his team up, 3-0, and just two minutes later Phillip Rowley converted, to secure a 4-0 lead in the Tigers’ favour.
All was not lost as the Linden side kept fighting and was rewarded in the 78th minute through Shawn Daniels and again in the 83th minute by teammate Gavin Daw to pull two goals back at the end of regulation time with the score reading 4-2 in favour of BK Western Tigers.
Pele then followed their city companions into victory mode against Milerock, winning 1-0 through an Ezekiel Jones’ 67th minute goal. The score remained unchanged at the end of regulation time.
