A 73-year-old man and his domestic worker were tied up and robbed of cash, jewellery and other articles, including a licensed shotgun and several live ammunition between 08:00hrs and 10:00hrs on Friday.
The incident occurred at William Venkatasammi’s Plot Eight Co-op Scheme, Tain Settlement home.
According to information received, a man arrived at the home of the elderly man and asked to weed his yard. The pensioner agreed and while being directed, the man brandished a cutlass and moments after he was joined by another man, who was armed with a handgun.
The duo then proceeded to demand cash and valuables while pointing the gun at the elderly man.
Venkatasammi, along with his maid identified as Janet Hasnoo, 38, was taken to the upper flat of the house where they were tied up and placed in the living room as the duo ransacked the house.
During the ordeal, Hasnoo was beaten about her body by the bandits, as they demanded cash and jewellery. The men escaped with GYD$200,000 cash,US$300,TT$100, a cellular phone, one flat screen TV, one electric grinder and the licensed 12-gauge shotgun, along with over 80 live ammunition.
After gathering the items, the robbers made their escape via the back door of the house. Contact was made with police who arrived promptly and launched an investigation. Up to press time, no arrest has been made.
