AZIMUTH Resources Limited, the Australian mining company which is exploring for gold in the West Omai area of Region 7 (Cuyuni/Mazaruni), disclosed last week that it had received significant results from scout drilling done at two of its properties – Kaburi and Smarts. Analytical results for the holes drilled at Kaburi showed gold values ranging from 0.32 grams gold per ton of excavated material to 9.2 grams. The company said the best mineralization of 9.2 grams per ton of gold, intersected by drill hole SRC009, remained open to the southeast, and is inferred to strike through an extensive area of backfilled artisanal workings which extend to the southeast for a distance of at least 400m.
Accordingly, further scout drilling is currently being planned for the Kaburi prospect, and it is expected that a further 3,000 to 5,000 metres of scout reverse circulation drilling will be undertaken there within the next 2-3 months.
Assays for the holes drilled at Smarts showed gold values ranging from 1.65 grams gold per ton of excavated material to 33.87 grams.
The company said it had completed all resource drilling at the Smarts Deposit, and is awaiting results of approximately 2,000 samples.
The company is currently undertaking resource expansion drilling at Smarts — across strike, along strike, and at depth.
Azimuth also disclosed that the aerial geophysical surveys at the East and West Omai projects are 95% flown, and it expects to receive processed data in the coming six to eight weeks.
