KOMALCHAND Deonarain, 26, of Success, East Coast Demerara appeared before Sparendaam Magistrate Alex Moore charged with dangerous driving wherein it was alleged that he drove motor cycle, CE 1804, in a manner dangerous to the public, and collided with a pedal cyclist along the Beterverwagting Railway Embankment on March 3. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
According to police sergeant Bernard Brown, prosecuting, the defendant was heading west on the road at an uncontrollable speed when he collided with the cyclist. As a result, they both received injuries and were taken to the hospital.
Prosecutor Browne also told the court that the cyclist nursed two broken legs and has been receiving public treatment. However, he did not object to the defendant being granted bail, which was set at $50,000. The defendant was asked to return to court on May 3.
