BUXTON/Friendship, on East Coast Demerara, was a hive of activity on Sunday, as hundreds, in glamour, glitz and glitter, took to the public thoroughfare to celebrate ‘Mashramani’ in their own way. People of all ages and walks of life, attired in costumes designed for the festivity perched high on lorries and attired in costumes designed for the festivity thronged the roadways.
Throwing inhibitions to the wind, youths on the vehicles gyrated to the beat of music, jumping together and jammin’ one another.
The fun, which started early in the day, saw the colourful and energetic band of revellers wending their way from Friendship in the South, along the road into Friendship Community Centre ground where the action intensified.
So large was the crowd, bent on ‘Mashing ‘til mornin’ that, apart from those at the ground, there were several pockets of other revellers and sporting fans, lining the main Buxton to Friendship Highway, at the Friendship Gas station and wherever they could be accommodated.
They were out to ‘Mash with Pride, to keep the tradition alive’ and the police were on hand to direct traffic and ensure orderliness and crowd control.
