Body of Kwakwani pensioner washes ashore

THE body of Leon Williams, a pensioner who resided in the Upper-Berbice Riverain Community of Kwakwani Water Front, washed up on shore on Monday.
Williams was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and had jumped into the river to evade being arrested by the police.

Around 21:00hrs on Sunday, a resident made a report to the Kwakwani Police Station that Williams was behaving disorderly and was armed with a cutlass.

When the police arrived at the scene, upon seeing them, Williams reportedly jumped into the river. The said night, his body did not resurface, even after a search was done.

About 08:30hrs on Monday, he was seen motionless by a cousin, about 50 feet away from her home, at Kwakwani Water Front. Williams’ body is at the Kwakwani Mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
