At Demerara Assizes….

Judge sums up in Stewartville murder case Monday
JUSTICE Franklyn Holder will, on Monday, sum up the evidence in the Stewartville murder case to the jury at the Demerara Assizes.
Lawyers for the prosecution and defence made their final addresses  on Tuesday before the adjournment was taken.
Originally, Peter Ray Kassim and Satnanand Sahadeo were indicted for the unlawful killing of Vishnu Santi on Wednesday,  June 29, 2005, during a robbery  at Stewartville , West Coast Demerara.
But, subsequently, defence counsel Hukumchand, for Kassim,  made a successful no-case submission, resulting in the latter being freed by the judge and leaving Sahadeo alone in the dock. Sahadeo was called upon for a defence to the capital offence.
He made an unsworn statement from the dock and defence counsel George Thomas suggested that the prosecution witnesses were  biased and gave evidence that must leave the jury  in doubt.
State prosecutor Judith Gildharie-Mursalin, associated with Renita Singh, asked the jury to find that Santi was attacked on returning to his home that night while his attackers were planning to effect a robbery on the family.
