…  Injury leaves Gayle questionable for South Africa T20
FORMER West Indies opener Chris Gayle says he does not intend to apologise to the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for comments he made in a radio interview last May regarding the team and the state of West Indies cricket. The 32-year-old, who has not represented the West Indies since making the accusations, made the disclosure shortly after belting 165 for Jamaica during last week’s WICB Regional Four-Day Tournament clash with the Windward Islands.
“There is no rethinking of my decision as it relates to apologising. That is out of the window. The ball is in their (WICB) court,” said Gayle.
“In fact, I am not really focusing on that right now. What I am focusing on is what is in front of me. That is whenever I get the opportunity to represent Jamaica I will, and whatever contracts I sign overseas,” he declared.
Gayle, who last represented the West Indies during last April’s ICC World Cup, has been at loggerheads with the WICB since the controversial radio interview.
Meanwhile, Gayle will not be joining the Dolphins in South Africa  for the start of the T20 Challenge campaign after he was ruled out through injury.
This is a massive blow for the Durban franchise, who were banking heavily on the experience and ability of one of the best players in the 20-over format of the game.
Gayle sustained a groin injury whilst playing for the Barisal Burners in the Bangladesh Premier League earlier yesterday.
He will no longer travel to South Africa later today and it is still uncertain whether he will play any part in the local T20..
“He is going to be assessed by their medical team and they will advise us accordingly,” said KZN Cricket chief executive Jesse Chellan. “We will ensure to update our fans and the media as soon as we have further information.”
“KZN Cricket (Pty) Ltd have received notification from Chris’ agents from Bangladesh of an injury to the Jamaican batsman,” read a statement from the Dolphins yesterday.
“Chris Gayle has damaged a groin muscle and will not be able to fly out tonight to Durban.” (WICCRICNEWS)
